چکیده

Multi-level shaking table tests were performed on a 1:3 reduced scale two-story reinforced concrete (RC) intermediate moment resisting frame (IMRF) conforming to the requirements given in ACI-318-19. The exterior joints lacked shear reinforcement assess viability of ACI model recommended for determining design strength beam–column joint panel. One horizontal components 1994 Northridge earthquake accelerogram (090 CDMG Station 24278, Source: PEER strong motion database) was input multi-level testing. Plastic hinges developed beams under base with maximum acceleration equal 0.40 g. incurred extensive damage 0.70 achieved displacement ductility and overstrength factors (determined as ratio resistance share force) 2.40 2.50, respectively. This gives response modification factor 6. satisfactory performance is attributed high efficiency joint, which confined by spandrel two faces concrete. inherent minimal confinement sufficient ensure seismic behavior. analysis confirmed 1.58 comparison determined using model. data might serve reference calibrating validating numerical modeling techniques evaluation, are crucial context performance-based engineering.

Numerical Study of Progressive Collapse in Intermediate Moment Resisting Reinforced Concrete Frame Due to Column Removal

Progressive collapse is a chain reaction of failures propagating throughout a portion of the structure disproportionate to the original local failure occurring when a sudden loss of a critical load‐bearing element initiates a structural element failure, eventually resulting in partial or full collapse of the structure. Both General Services Administration (GSA) and United States Department of D...

Bidirectional Shaking Table Tests of a One-fourth Scale Reinforced Concrete Space Frame

Shaking table tests on the 1/4th-scale three-story reinforced concrete frames were carried out to investigate the effects of bidirectional earthquake motions on overall nonlinear response of reinforced concrete frame buildings. Two identical models were constructed and one was subjected to bidirectional horizontal earthquake motions and the other was subjected to unidirectional one. A series of...

ESTIMATING THE VULNERABILITY OF THE CONCRETE MOMENT RESISTING FRAME STRUCTURES USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS

Heavy economic losses and human casualties caused by destructive earthquakes around the world clearly show the need for a systematic approach for large scale damage detection of various types of existing structures. That could provide the proper means for the decision makers for any rehabilitation plans. The aim of this study is to present an innovative method for investigating the seismic vuln...

Period Formulas for Moment-resisting Frame Buildings

Most seismic codes specify empirical formulas to estimate the fundamental vibration period of buildings. Evaluated first in this paper are the formulas specified in present US codes using the available data on the fundamental period of buildings “measured” from their motions recorded during eight California earthquakes, starting from the 1971 San Fernando earthquake and ending with the 1994 Nor...
